Goal

My teammate and I become very interested in historic electronic display devices, and we have fallen in love with a little tube display called Nixie tube. We decided to make it into a watch so we can carry the story with us and share that with people we meet.

Design and prototype

It begins with nixie tubes. There is a reason why led looks cheap and people still like the light from the actual fire. There is fine quality from these glowing digital tubes that our RGB digital screen just won’t be able to bring out, and the historical aspect of the tubes makes it that much special. We went with a diamond-cutting shape to showcase the tubes, giving the nixie tubes maximum exposure without distractions from the circuit boards. the shape is first modeled and rendered, which later was 3d printed with ABS at home and 3d printed with stainless steel with shapeways.

Kickstarter campaign

to start a Kickstarter campaign, we need a video photographer to produce a video; we need a graphic designer to design a logo and VI, And we need a professional writer for the actual campaign. I do have the skills to create all these, but I believe knowing my own limitations and resourcing these jobs to the professionals would be a great benefit to this campaign.

social media and marketing campaign

I found the best target audience to be Japanese people due to their strong history with innovative technology advancement and difficulty in dumping electronic wastes. So I decided on a full advertisement campaign via Twitter, the most used social media in Japan. And resulting in 1/3 of our revenue coming from japan.
